Baileys are thrilled to learn about the Urban Greening Grant Program

A collaborative effort between the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) and WALGA. This initiative aims to expand tree canopy and vegetative cover in high urban heat areas to combat climate change impacts, enhance biodiversity, and improve neighborhood livability.
Local nurseries are stepping up, growing millions of trees over the next four years to meet the increased demand for locally grown trees. This represents significant progress, and Baileys is excited to contribute. However, how can we ensure the establishment and survival of these trees, especially in Perth’s brutal summers?

Enhanced Root Growth
Red loam and Kaolin clay enhance soil moisture, stabilise roots, and improve nutrient absorption. Biowish introduces beneficial microorganisms; controlled-release fertiliser ensures steady nutrient supply.
Efficient Water Management
Grosorb wetting agent enhances water penetration and distribution, while water-saving crystals conserve water for sustained hydration.

Challenges of planting new trees:

  • Trees grown in nurseries are nurtured under optimal conditions, receiving regular nutrients and daily watering, with growers monitoring them closely.
  • Some trees are cultivated for 3-4 years before being sold, signifying a considerable investment in ensuring their optimal health.
  • Young trees, planted less than 6-8 months ago, lack the root structure to withstand extreme heat, especially when surrounded by concrete, exacerbating the “heat island effect.”
  • Perth’s sandy soils pose a challenge for new tree survival once they leave the nursery.

By incorporating Baileys Tree Planting Mix with existing soil or backfilling, trees receive the best possible start for optimal growth and survival.

Baileys Product Solution

Give new trees the best start with Baileys Tree Planting Mix

Drawing on over 20 years of soil testing experience in Western Australia, Baileys technical team has developed the optimal mix for tree planting. The need to find solutions for the survival of newly planted trees in such harsh conditions is paramount. Baileys Tree Planting Mix is specifically designed to be used around the root zone, promoting rapid root establishment.

Let’s collaborate to support Urban Greening initiatives and maximise the survival of new trees in Perth.
